Fifty-to-One-Hundred-Page Critique

Some stories work as far as the overall plot is concerned, but the writer has problems at the scene level. Perhaps the story doesn’t flow, or test readers say they are confused in certain places. Perhaps a scene that should evoke emotion falls flat. Why do these things happen?

The fifty-to-one-hundred-page critique will take a close look at the scenes within, addressing issues of motivation, point of view, sequence, showing and telling, internal monologue, and more in order to troubleshoot these systemic problems.

The fee for a fifty-to-one-hundred-page critique is $3 per page (using the industry standard of 250 words per page).

As with the other services, please format your manuscript in keeping with that which agents and editors require. Here are the basics:

  • 12 point Times New Roman font
  • Double spaced
  • No extra line between paragraphs
  • Margins set at one inch, for both sides and top/bottom
  • The beginning of each paragraph indented (a half inch)
  • A “slug” included in the header: Author last name / Title / Page number

As with other services, writers should transmit their manuscript electronically using Microsoft Word.
